South Korea transitioned from a lot-number (jibeon) addressing system to a road-name (doromyeong) system in 2014. The new system uses road names and building numbers, similar to Western conventions. The 5-digit postal code replaced the older 6-digit system in 2015. Addresses flow from largest to smallest: province/metropolitan city, district (gu/gun), road name, building number.

Despite the official transition, many Koreans still use the old lot-number system in daily life, and both formats are accepted by Korea Post. E-commerce platforms serving Korea should ideally support both formats.

Korean consumers heavily use convenience store pickup and apartment complex parcel lockers. The "dong" (neighborhood block within an apartment complex) is critical for apartment deliveries and must be captured accurately. Korean address forms typically include a postal code lookup feature that auto-fills the address up to the building level.
